Scaling and Routine Examination

Tartar and Plaque Formation: What Happens If Not Cleaned?

Plaque is a thin layer of bacteria that accumulates on our teeth. If not cleaned regularly, plaque turns into tartar. Tartar can build up under and above the gums, causing inflammation, gum disease and tooth loss. If tartar is not removed, it causes bad breath, stains on the teeth and makes the teeth look dirty and bad. In addition, scaling helps to remove cigarette and coffee stains.

Gum Diseases: What Can Happen If Left Untreated?

When tartar is not removed, it can cause inflammation, recession and bone loss in the gums. This can lead to tooth loss. Gum disease is also associated with systemic health problems such as heart disease and diabetes. In a large proportion of patients who present with oral complaints, we see that plaque accumulated in the mouth is effective.

What are Routine Dental Checkups?

First Welcome and Registration:

During your clinic visit, you will first be greeted by the receptionist. Your personal information and health history will be taken. X-rays will be taken, if not already done. X-rays examine the internal structure of your teeth and jawbones to help detect cavities, bone loss or other problems.

Detailed Dental Examination:

Your dentist will carefully examine your mouth and teeth. During this examination, they will look for tooth decay, gum disease, abrasions and other problems. The jaw tissues and salivary glands are also checked. Oral tissues are examined for early detection of oral cancers. Oral cancers diagnosed early can be treatable and life-saving.

How Often Should Teeth Cleaning Be Performed?

Scaling should usually be done once a year. However, your dentist may recommend more frequent cleanings depending on the state of your oral health. Regular cleanings keep your teeth free of plaque and tartar, prevent gum disease and protect your oral health.
