Implant Dental Treatment

Implant Treatment

Implant Treatment Dental implants are a treatment for tooth loss and are one of the most modern and safe methods to replace missing teeth. Basically, 3 different methods can be used to replace missing teeth :

  1. Bridges
  2. Removable Prostheses
  3. Implant Treatment

Before implant treatment became widespread, bridges and removable prosthesis applications were preferred more frequently. Bridges are a method in which the neighboring teeth in the area where the missing tooth is located are reduced in size. The disadvantage of this method is the intervention of healthy teeth. Removable dentures are used when the teeth at the very end of the jaw are missing. These prostheses move in the mouth and can be difficult to clean. Dental implants are the most modern of these methods.

How is an implant made?

The implant operation is not complicated. Titanium pieces to be used as tooth roots are placed in the jawbone. Sometimes, implants are applied in the same session with tooth extraction. However, in cases where the extracted tooth is infected or there is not enough bone, the implant can be applied after tooth extraction. The placement of a single implant usually takes no more than 10 minutes. After the implant has been successfully placed, it takes 3 to 6 months for the implant to be surrounded by bone. This period is determined by the physician depending on the area treated, the materials used and the patient’s condition. At the end of the waiting period, a crown is placed over the implant.

Things to Consider After the Implant Procedure

After the implant procedure, you should follow your doctor’s recommendations. As with other surgical procedures, you should pay attention to oral hygiene. While minimal pain is felt after a single implant procedure, pain, swelling and bruising may occur for a few days after the entire jaw. Light bleeding may also occur in the days following the procedure.

It is important not to smoke and avoid foods that will irritate the procedure area.

Implant Brands

There are different manufacturers of titanium screws used for the implant procedure. However, the choice of implant brand is usually made by the physician. If the choice is left to you, you can make the right choice by asking the following questions:

  • How many years have you been using the brands you recommend?
  • How many years have these brands been on the market?
  • If I have problems with my implant in the future, is there a support office for this brand in another city or country?

Will My Implants Fall Out?

Whether the implants will fall out in the future or whether they will hold successfully after the operation is one of the frequently asked questions. If the implants are placed with the correct technique by an experienced surgeon, there is a 1-2% chance that they will not integrate with the bone. In the long term, implants that are regularly maintained and checked can last 20-30 years or more.

Implant surgery is an extremely safe and comfortable treatment when needed. However, it is important to remember that this treatment is personalized.
